Kheema Pav is the Indian version of Sloppy Joes. Stewed minced chicken is sandwiches between buttery Bombay buns for an amazing meal.


Kheema is a spicy minced meat dish that can either be dry or more like a curry. It can be served with rice or flatbreads like rotis but in Mumbai it is served with toasted pav buns.


Fast, easy and delicious, the little sliders make an unforgettable snack or a full fledged meal.

Add 2 tablespoons oil/ghee to a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the onions, ginger-garlic paste, and green chili and cook for 4 minutes until brown. Meanwhile, dice the tomatoes.

Stir in all spice powders, adding the chili powder per your spice level. Add the diced tomatoes and 2 teaspoons salt and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until tomatoes begin to break down.

Add the ground meat, breaking it up well while stirring it to fully incorporate it into the curry base. Stir and cook for 5 minutes until the meat looks opaque.

Add half a cup of water, cover the pan, and lower the heat to medium. Simmer for 15 minutes, then uncover and cook for an additional 5 minutes to allow some of the juices to evaporate and form a thick meat sauce.

Toast the pav buns with butter or oil in a toaster oven, griddle, or pan for a few minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.

Finish the kheema with the chopped cilantro and remove from heat. Serve hot with the pav buns on the side or assemble like sloppy joes!
